General Overview
The Community Agriculture Response & Empowerment (CARE) Project was conceptualized to target persons with a keen interest in agriculture who have access to their own lands and those accessible within the community. This is primarily aimed at those who do not qualify for commercial venture under the FEED Programme, community groups and also benevolent organizations. The project is executed by a joint venture between Barbados Agricultural Development & Marketing Corporation (BADMC) and Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC) under the umbrella of the parent ministry, Ministry of Agriculture Food and Nutritional Security (MAFS).
Aims
The project aims to:
- Reduce unemployment & improve the standard of living
- Stimulate the generation of income
- Increase household nutritional and food security within the communities & those below the poverty line
- Provide access to training within various aspects of agriculture
- Facilitate cultivation of arable lands, if feasible and restore productivity
Objectives
.
- Facilitation of the preparation of lands for small holdings under 1 acre for agricultural production
- Provision of planting material(s), seeds and small gardening kit (tools) to participants.
- Provision of training material (i.e. how to videos and advice on agronomic practices i.e. techniques used for production)
